This video was shot 3 weeks after Katrina. Although most of the media attention is on New Orleans, I found that the damage in Biloxi, Mississippi was devastating. In New Orleans they are dealing with flooded houses, in Biloxi the houses are gone! I have hours of video and I will be presenting most of it in time. This is the Biloxi waterfront. Note the large structures remain, however, the destruction to smaller structures is nearly complete. This video primarily focuses on damage caused by the 20' storm surge. Of particular interest is the Casino Barges. There are 3 in this video, however, there were others as well. The barges were located 100 yards from the beach, laying primarily in parking lots. Special Thanks to Tate Towing and Recovery in Fort Myers, Florida for their assistance on this project. Please Visit Our Weather BookStore www.WeatherBookStore.com

Biloxi and the Gulf Coast became an after thought after the media focused on all of the chaos happening in New Orleans. I work and live in Biloxi and I am still amazed when people visit from all parts of the country and can't believe the destruction that happened.I think the reason that is because N.O. got all of the attention in the media and continues to. Biloxi and the G.C. may not have the history of N.O. or character but we matter!

My Name Is Mark Mcmullin. I grew up in Biloxi, off Popp's ferry road, in Holly Hills. I used to fish on the rock pile by Treasure Bay Casino. recognize the place. I fished for Reds and specks, and Flounder berfore they had gambling!! I miss Biloxi,,And I love Biloxi! Biloxi suffered more then N.O. in My Opinion. Yet N.O. gets all the attention. It's because they are all Black?? Looking for handouts,,,,,,,,,They should be ashamed,,,,,,They are using the "Race Card",,That's my Opinion,,,,

if your wondering what the giant casino with a barge on land was, it was the old Grand Casino or used to be referred to Casino Magic. hurricane Katrina brought it onto land.

you spic173 are a moron. Since YOU brought politics into this thread, let's check the facts: Mayor of Biloxi which was hit as hard or HARDER than NOLA was AJ Holloway= Conservative Republican. And the Mayor of NOLA - Ray Nagin, a Democrat. The G of MS = Haley Barbour (R). And the G of LA: Kathleen Blanco (D). Which city and state handles this atrocity extremely well and which city/state gave us the what NOT to do example(s)??? Even you can figure that one out. FtR, i'm an Independent.

CITIES: BILOXI compared to New Orleans. STATES: MISSISSIPPI vs. Louisiana. Congratulations to Biloxi mayor AJ Holloway and MS Governor Haley Barbour. You gentlemen did a wonderful job of leading your respective city and state through a horrific event!

Hurricane Katrina: Biloxi vs New Orleans: A Tale of Two Cities...MISSISSIPPI vs. Louisiana (1) How TO respond before, during, and particularly after an event like this. And (2) How NOT to respond pre-, during-, and post-catastrophic event(s). Biloxi-Mississippi showed the nation and world provide a wonderful of example of the RIGHT way to handle extreme adversity while New Orleans and Louisiana provided the WRONG way to act and react. Congratulations Biloxi, Mississippi! Thank You!

Thank you 4 this video, I was 1 of the many that didn't evacuate but thankfully lived thru the destruction of Katrina. It's frustrating to me that so many people assume I lived in New Orleans when I say I was in Katrina, most say "oh mississippi got hit hard 2?" then I tell my story (I lived in Diamondhead) & the hell we went thru when we saw the storm surge coming but could do nothing about it & the aftermath we faced when we were on day 5 with no food/water. Most thank me for educating them.

Biloxi has a history older than new orleans. Ocean springs was the first established city of lousianna, and Biloxi had been the capital.

I remember driving by Treasure Bay out in the middle of 90. All the devastation. A normal route taking a good 10 minutes took hours. Not one lick of breeze anywhere. No power. People rushing places because of word on gas and then finding out it was just rumor. It sucked. It sucked real bad. Thank you for this footage. The gulf coast still stands strong today and always will. We came together. And that is what matters.
