Q:? In terms of the H-1b visas. What is your position on that?
A: I want to look at how certification occurs. I want to look at how the labor pool is identified. Whether it be in the surrounding area where that particular business may be looking and seeking for high tech individuals what extensive availability of information is there so we know, if before we go abroad, we are first prioritizing those workers who are in fact capable and ready to fill these positions.
...the priority in my mind would be fairness. First of all, looking at how we provide fairness for those individuals who are trained and who are here in this country. Put them first. If we are not able to get there, then look at the statistical information and look at what is there. And then come up with ... looking at other frames, designs. But at this point that is where I would begin in exploring that.
and ps linuxguru your wrong

@majorkrohn What made America strong was that even if you didn't have a good education or were from a rich family, you could achieve greatness by inventing the next big thing. Thats simply not true in strict monolithic societies like China. Sadly, due to the effects of H1B on wages and careers, Americans no longer seek to enter STEM. The odd ball underdog with the kick ass idea simply is displaced by cheap labor from China and India.

@majorkrohn Education is important but its NOT the most important thing. I magination, the ability to come up with new novel applications, the ability to see things differently and invent new technologies are more important. Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, Larry Ellison and Mark Zuckerberg are all college dropouts but they founded some of the biggest technolgy companies in history.

Its more of the stalling "we need to do more research" kind of BS. There has been loads of reseach by DOL, Rand, Sloan and Urban Institute that the program is just a cheap labor program. It the common knowlege on the Hill that this is a give away to big tech and that its destroyed the middle class and killed innovation. Its just that Obama got a lot of money from tech, Indian Council . so they are doing stalling as much as they can. This is tacit admission that H1Bs is a horrible mistake.

we're among the only countries on Earth who are perpetually asked to de-prioritize the needs of our own citizens in favor of the bottom dollar and the needs of third world economies. The Japanese certainly would never put up with this shit, neither should we.
