(Latin Pulse/Pulso Latino: March 17, 2009) President Obama courted Latino voters with immigration reform, but economic worries have taken priority above all else. Through news reports from Latin America and US Latin newscasts, we show the view from the South on immigration. Our partner New America Media speaks with writer Richard Rodriguez about how immigration has changed over the last few years, and what it will mean to leave reform unaddressed. Latin Pulse investigates the role of ICE and its raid policies which the new administration is reviewing.

This episode shows what immigration enforcement looks like on the ground, as New American Media follows women in Iowa who are dealing with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and then looks at the life of a deportee in El Salvador.

Espanol:

  • Even when there are illegal immigrants from farther south of Mexico countries still do not think highly of these immigrants within their borders.

  • Well until loopholes are filled as far as sending illegals who pose a threat aka Drug Traffickers and Human Traffickers, sexual offenders for such activities I would care more about gettin them out of the US, instead of those who are put under trial for minor charges WHILE APPLYING FOR CITIZENSHIP and then DENIED . A Drug Trafficker is just that regardless of ethnicity or skin color. As a person who was born in a country where drugs were used as gun money I feel those people have more priority.

  • Illegal immigration is just that - illegal! I you com here legally, learn english and support and understand your new homeland. If you become a US Citizen, break from your former country, its system of government, its basis and system of laws. Many naturalized US citizens make better patriotic Americans than those who have been here for generations, speak perfect english but are brainwashed, ignorant fools! The US needs good citizens that support the Constitution of our land and its foundations.

  • 14:00 They took the father or mother away because they broke the law. And refuse to follow the laws in another country. They burn the flag they crap on it. They spit at the people refuse to learn there language and try to tell them to learn there language. So the kids ask Where is your mom. in Jail for being bad.

  • When it comes to the U.S. and Mexico, real immigration reform is the Megamerge Dissolution Solution. Read about it and find out. Click my profile for the url.

  • Immigrants are workers also, workers with families,

In my opinion racist groups are against the legalization of these families. Our economy needs this workers for good. For what I know no citizens are protesting to work in the farmers or fields of California.

  • So when they get sent back home, the folks there don't approve of them.

They get gang tattoo's removed and have to straighten up.

When Americans don't approve of them they are racists.

    very interesting

  • Very good piece. Thanks Link TV!

  • Why have we not just invaded mexico and take it over? I am latino and I think it is a great idea. We go half way around the world to fight, why not fight here. TAKE OVER MEXICO BEFORE MEXICO TAKES OVER US!!!!
