I've been there and filmed for a television show that helped expose the so called abbots for what they are doing. The Tigers are systematically abused and exploited for the benefit of misinformed tourists. By paying money to see these poor tigers you are personally helping to enslave them. The only way this type of abuse will stop is if tourist make educated decisions when traveling abroad.

Who go there to see they feed the animals should be very careful. Me and gf nearly pierce by the buffalos' horns. This incident happen when 2 of the buffalos fighting. Another buffalo joined in their fighting. Other buffalos ran here and there. The 2 fighting buffalos ran to other direction and make a U turn towards us. Luckly we both fall down. Suffer from scratches. Be aware, ya...

The tiger temple in the kanchanaburi province in thailand is a sham, proved in a 2year investigation by the CWI the CWI uncovered many cases, including animal cruelty, illegal breeding and visitor safety risk. The full report can be found at:

They've been saying that for a very long time. Just because you saw a 'documentary' is irrelevant. Anyone can make a documentary and anyone can be wrong.
I guess you see nothing wrong with these tigers being on very, very short chains and being forced to stay out in the rain...this is a money-making scam pure and simple.

Get some real experts in some real animal behaviorists involved, stop trading illegally in an endangered species. Basically, tigers are an internationally recognized endangered species and they deserve to be protected from exploitation, which is what the temple is apparently doing. Now, if the temple was to invite some REAL authorities, folks who have the credentials to set up a zoo, that would be a big first step in the right direction. Right now, the monks can basically do whatever they wish.
I have been to this temple 3 times and have never seen it like this!
From my experience the tigers have been treated well, and as said below alot of them have been saved from poaches & some been born at the temple. There are not alot of places in the wild for tigers in Thailand.
Bet you didn't know that they are also building a huge tiger island. If you want to help the tigers, go and visit ans donate some money for there new inclosure!

Actually, I *did* know that since I've been there. It is a pretty impressive project and I think it will be very good for getting the new cubs ready to be released into the wild. The day I was there it was raining hard and that's why the tigers were chained.

Well, it may have something to do with the fact that it is raining and the tigers get pretty restless when it is raining. Oh, and there are also a lot of guests standing around. While I appreciate your concern about it being cruel to restrain the tigers, I think if you had a little more information about what the temple has been doing to help the tiger cubs abandoned when their parents are poached, you'd appreciate the situation a little better.
