The only vice-presidential debate of the 2008 U.S. campaign was a polite and largely mistake-free discussion, that failed to produce a clear winner.

But both Joe Biden, the Democrat candidate, and Sarah Palin, his Republican adversary, were at pains to portray themselves as being in touch with so-called average Americans.

From St Louis, Rob Reynolds reports.

  • Well, I think Joe Biden won this debate clearly.

  • She didn't answer the hard questions or give insight into what they would do, all she did was deflect and answer the stuff that they stuffed in her empty head for the past couple of weeks.

Biden won this one, by golly

  • Did little soccer mom Sarah ever find out what the job of a VP is?????

  • Ca. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger says concessions made to Nebraska Sen. Ben Nelson to win his vote on the health care overhaul bill were a "rip-off" for his state and is urging California lawmakers to vote against it.

In an interview airing Sunday on NBC's Meet the Press, Schwarzenegger says giving extra Medicaid benefits to Nebraska to secure Nelson's vote, critical to Senate passage of the measure, was "like buying a vote." In Sacramento, he says, "it is illegal to do that, to buy votes."

  • "Can I call you Joe?" "You can call me Joe." LOL I dont know why but I founded that funny.

  • Puhlease Sara Palin all the way

  • When you start from being as dumb as she was in those interviews you have no choice but to get better. Where she lacked in intelligence she tried to make up with talking points. Kudos to her prep team...she didn't claim foreign policy experience by being able to see Russia for the third time.

  • about the iraq democrats are totally right.

    about palin..

    totally bullshit

  • John McCain is used to force the election of Barack Obama. Barack Obama forced you to pay for Wall Street's bailout. Stop the extortion, blackmail, bribery, and division; Ron Paul, Ralph Nader, and Cynthia McKinney. "The two parties should be almost identical, so that the American people can 'throw the rascals out' at any election without leading to any profound or extensive shifts in policy." - Carol Quigley
