Philippines battles rice crisis

In Asia rice prices have almost tripled this year and as producing nations enforce export restrictions to protect their own supplies, stocks are dwindling in those countries relying on imports.

The Philippines is one of the countries worst affected.

It has called on the World Bank to persuade rice-supplying nations to lift export bans, as Marga Ortigas reports.

Well, if they keep ballooning their population; they will be forced to expand the cities and therefore, in doing so, will have less available landscape to grow rice and other crops!
