Spearfishing: A Perfect Day

It was a perfect day. Flat seas, warm blue tropical water with 30 -40 metres visibility. I was over 500km off the coast of Queensland Australia with my mates spearfishing. Taka took his first wahoo and I took my biggest. We were stoked.

Id be afraid a 12 ft tiger shark would come rocketing out of the depths while I was bobbling around on top of the water with a big chunk of bait between my legs.

Do you ever worry about sharks when you're spear fishing? I'm going to go spearfishing in the Bahamas soon, and I'm a little worried about it. Please reply!

At 1.23 there is the reason why I'd use a breakaway rig.... always better to have a stick to poke at the sharptooths hanging around. ;)

Nice catch.
Instead of using the rig you have now, use a break away. Instead of the shooting line connected to your muzzle, its directly attached to the tag line. It just puts less stress on your gun. Look up how to rig it properly.

Thanks. I use a break-away when I am targeting dogtooth tuna as they head for the reefs, however wahoo don't fight dirty so I don't usually worry about it.

wot were the specs of the gun u were using? i thawt u wulda need way more power :/

It was a 1.3 Rob Allen with 2x 16mm rubbers; 7.5mm shaft with a flopper. I usually use a 1.4RA but my accuracy with the 1.3 makes it my gun of choice. No shortage of power. Wahoo have soft flesh.
