This is my typical mode of long distance travel in India, as it is for most of the Indian middle class. This shows the "Sleeper Class" accommodations on the "Shiv Ganga" from Varanasi to New Delhi, which is usually about a 12 hour journey overnight. This costs about 321 Rupees (about $8.23)each way.
After 9:00 pm, the back rest of the bench seating flips up to become the middle tier of the three tier sleeping "births." I chain and lock my suitcase to the underside of the bottom bench overnight. I always try to book/reserve the upper birth so I can still rest if the others in my "bogie" decide to stay up late sitting on the lower bench and talking or something.

  • does every class of indian trains has power supply??????plz reply

  • @hesrimesh

No, I think only 1st and 2nd AC class has a power supply for each compartment. I'm not sure about 2nd, but 1st definitely does.

  • railways changes when people change their minds

  • @indianrailways actually, you'd be happy to hear a took a ticket first class on IR from Pune-Mumbai and I liked it a lot, I've changed my perception of IR, I like it now.

  • @kirenjohn We do have $2000 per night trains too, which the normal junkie tourists can't afford and so they post such cheap clips, which may reduce some of their restlessness !!!

  • @chetankathalay Most of the trains worldwide dump shit and piss and god knows what on the track, in the UK here, trains have only been fitted with 'retention' tanks since the late 80's

  • JALEBI could be made by our SHIT , DUE TO SHAKING OF TRAIN LOL

  • Typical filthy India... what's really sad, when you actually use that hole in the floor (toilet), then flush it, where do think it goes. Correct, outside on the rail lines below the moving trail. Bacteria is cooking in India and will be served to us all soon!!!

  • where do you lock your luggage?

  • Has anyone used the toilets at the 34th Street Station in NYC in the great US of A? I have and even after 5 years, thinking about it gives me dysentery.. I will take the Indian Sleeper Coach toilets any day compared to that.
