HP Z3100 24 Inch Printer Rubber Drive Belt Replacement Kit Installation

http://bgpictures.com/tampa-wedding-commercial-photography-blog/hp-z3100-driv...

This video details step by step, how to replace the drive belt in a HP Z3100 24" printer. The same procedures can be followed for the Z2100, Z3200 and 44" models with minimal differences. It includes removing the window, top cover, front panel, front cover, rear cover, left side, right side, carriage assembly, cutter, sensors and belt assembly plus cleaning and reassembly tips.

Supplies needed:

Service Manual
New belt
Non-evaporating synthetic machine oil
Cotton pads
Double-sided tape
Paper towel
Alcohol
Flat blade screwdriver
T8, T10, T15, T20 drivers.
Canned air
2' of paper

Expect to spend 2-3 hours on the job, taking your time.

I did this video using a 'kit' but do not suggest doing so, just get the supplies on your own, it's nothing special. See the article on the site for details on that.

  • THANKS!I have a question: I am able to move the carriage assembly freely (without forcing it...) BEFORE attempting to unlock it. I wonder what this means? Is it possible that the factory shipped it this way? Except for the shredded belt, this machine has been great. At any rate, I removed the plastic locater strip, but I hesitate to go any further. Once I get a T10, I'm gonna try locking/unblocking just to see what happens. Any ideas?

  • @dicktilton It just means the power was shut off before it locked. You can just skip the step.

  • i dont know if id call it a bad tip if you dont have the right driver its a good tip :) can the service station be manipulated by hand to return it back to the point of cleaning? like the dj500/800 you can manually turn the gears to move it into cleaning position if needed.

  • @sim672 You can call it what you want, I know better. Bad tip. No you can not manually move it, it's an internal motor.

  • tip for unlocking the carriage if the plotter still works you can power it up and either wait for the carriage to move out of the service station area or set it like your removing the printheads and simply unplug the plotter at that point. can skip out on the whole unlocking procedure!

  • @sim672 Bad tip. That also cycles the service station and rotate the top, preventing you from cleaning it, as it has then moved under. Do not deviate.

  • @MrPhillipchung You just turn it a few times until it clicks - it UNLOCKS the carriage, it doesn't move it. Once it's unlocked you just slide it.

  • What did I do wrong! I keep turning the hidden screw; however I can never remove or move the carriage assembly to the other side...Help

  • Great video! Do you have the reinstall Video or just go backward on your install video. Thanks Scott

  • This belt must be dry rotting. I have a z3100 that has not had 300 feet of paper through it and my belt is totally falling apart. Thanks for this video. Looks like I have a job ahead of me...
