Andy Shallal: "I Stand in Solidarity with all Palestinians!"

Andy Shallal is an Iraqi-American. As an activist, he has been associated with the "Iraqi Voices for Peace." On June 10, 2007, he was one of the keynote speakers at the "World Says No the Israeli Occupation" rally and march. He said: "I stand in solidarity with...all Palestinians...I cannot tell the difference these days between Iraq and Palestine...The devastation is the same." The event was held on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. The sponsors of the protest action were the "United for Peace & Justice" and the "US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation." Mr. Shallal is also the owner of the popular restaurant and bookstore in Washington, D.C.--"Busboys & Poets." It has been the venue for many progressive-oriented workshops, meetings and seminars.

Andy, my goodness. This is so very disappointing. As someone who knew you, admired your humanity and appreciated your all-around good nature, your pro-terrorism vitriol is shocking. I suppose the old saying about "never really knowing someone" is true. I can't help but feel crestfallen about this, and certainly won't be spending any time or money in your establishments. Neither should anyone else who values truth, compassion, logic and liberty.

Propaganda! While Hamas represses their own citizens, Israel is the only democracy in the MIddle East! Israel DESPERATELY WANTS PEACE while Palestinians won't even recognize Israel's right to exist. To compare the Black Experience and nonviolence of MLK with the racist, violence of Hamas (they see Jews as subhuman) is horrific. Jews were persecuted for 2,000 years! Finally, we get a portion of our Homeland back - only to be attacked again & again by Arab neighbors who vow to destroy us.
