  • Elvin added to the vocabulary of what a musician can do with the drum kit. He's the total package of an artist who pushed the envelope. Many players play with great intelligence, facility and power. Those three factors when combined with swing is what gets my attention. But you cannot teach swing. This must be discovered within. Swing is surrender to the real rhythm of the soul which is joy.

  • elvin was always so free in his playing. nothing mechanical about his drumming. just verry very free. that is what music should do to you. it should set you free.
