@molloyboytoy I don't think you've been watching the Chargers play much. Mathews has had 2 explosive TD runs from the outside in goal line situations. He out ran a corner on first his diving TD and, pretty much outran the whole Titans defense on his second. People didn't think DMac was so fabulous not long ago.
-
@Eball06 Still Mathews hasn't displayed any of the explosiveness that defines a game breaker like Darren Mcfabulous. Up to this point, Mathews has been nothing but a disappointment to everyone who's put any faith in him this year. They're not resting him for the playoffs when at this point they won't even get in because of Oak and KC. He simply doesn't have it thus far which is why they're leaning on Tolbert more. ESPN profiles can't make a RB good. We'll just have to wait and see!

@molloyboytoy Type (Ryan Mathews E:60) in the YouTube search bar and check the bit ESPN did about him.. This will allow you to see that he is not going to be a "bust", well, that's unless he gets "busted" up by injuries.

@molloyboytoy I don't know if they're babying him b/c they want him healthy for the playoffs or what. But time is definitely running out for his breakout game. He just needs to complete a game. It's too bad he picked up that ankle injury ( it was nasty looking, I thought he was done for the year). Luckily, he has a bye week to get healthy (Both Mathews and Tolbert are rehabilitating their ankle injuries this week). Mathews has a good chance at Denver, we all saw what McFadden did to them.
-
@Eball06 I don't disagree, but they've been babying all his injuries thus far. So if he does play, (I know this for sure because I have to monitor his stats in fantasy) he'll receive about 10 carries a game the next few weeks and average about fifty yards. Last time, he got about a 4 week respite because of his injury of the aforesaid limited reps. Which leaves him weeks 15 & 16 to breakout which I highly doubt. He's going to have to prove himself next year or SERIOUSLY face the bust tag.
-
@molloyboytoy If Mathews is healthy then he'll start. Chargers ain't paying him all that money to sit. He is a rookie so getting his reps is very important in his development. He is a way superior talent compared to Tolbert and, over time as he learns and develops, Tolbert will slowly fade out.
-
@Eball06 Yeah he's going to have to breakout next season. I think Tolbert is going to takeover for the rest of the year.
-
@molloyboytoy I can't really criticize him. I feel sorry for the kid for the most part. I can't even begin to understand the level of frustration he must be feeling (not good for the psyche of a rookie). He was fighting for extra yards with 3 guys on him & got the ball knocked out from behind ( good effort but, a bonehead rookie mistake). He comes back in to redeem himself & then re-aggravates his ankle injury & his day was done.

@Eball06 Barring injuries is the key word. As usual another awful Mathews performance. I'm dealing him this week I've had enough of this guy

@molloyboytoy Tolbert has more experience with the offense. Plus Norv calls horrible run plays for Mathews -- he keeps having Mathews run it up the gut when, Mathews has been a beast on the sweeps and going outside. Mathews is getting reps and the game is slowing down for him. I can't think of a reason why he can't have a breakout game against Houston (barring injuries of course).
Welcome to San Diego Matthews....your a Beast and im pumped to see you in december vs 49ers..whats even better is he wears #21...Great move AJ smith
