@TheDoctorArvyn uh... fade and dissolve are ostensibly the same thing. However, if one REALLY wants to nitpick, a dissolve is a fade from one shot to another, where as a fade generally implies moving from a shot to color or vice versa. So, I'm not sure what software the OP is using or what the effect is called in that software package, but professionally, that's certainly a dissolve.
You can do it with Window's Movie Maker, just take one picture of the tardis, not moving the camera, (set it down somewhere stable), Then move the tardis away, and take another picture, then add the.. dissolve effect I think? between the two images.
