Heinz Rögner is almost forgotten these days, like so many other important East German conductors. In my humble opinion was one of the finest and most unique Bruckner conductors ever, his Bruckner performances are characterized by slender, pithy sound, they're almost chamber-musical at times - even more so than HIP performances by Harnoncourt or Herreweghe - and relentless rhythmic energy. This is about as far from stereotypically solemn Bruckner as one can get, just listen to how aggressive the ostinatos of the Te Deum's first movement sound under Rögner's baton. This is my favorite Te Deum by far, I hope you'll enjoy it as well. Leave me a comment if you do and I'll upload more Rögner/Bruckner.
