A special presentation by Wendy Meluch of Visitor Studies Services
Bishop Museum, Paki Hall, Room II
Tuesday, March 16, 2010
6:00 pm to 7:00 pm (Arrive early for refreshments at 5:30 pm)

Visitors are a critical part of the museum equation. As centers of informal learning, museums and learning centers are mission driven to attract a wide audience to experience our exhibitions, programs, and unique services.

Wendy Meluch will explain her field of Visitor Studies, and how she advises museums and learning centers on evaluating exhibits, programs, and visitor satisfaction, and how to use those assessments. She will also address the challenges of continuing to attract the locally-based resident, the neighbor island patron, and the revenue-driving tourist.

She has worked with institutions to help bring the visitors voices into exhibit and program development. The studies and research questions she deals with are unique to each institution, and some of her special interests include visitor satisfaction and service to special needs populations. Currently, she is working with Bishop Museum to create evaluations and utilize them.

Wendy Meluch is Principal of Visitor Studies Services located in Northern California. Experience as a museum director, professional fundraiser, and educational tour operator informs her work in Visitor Studies and evaluation. She holds an MA in Museum Studies from San Francisco State University; BAs in Anthropology, and Tourism Management; and a Certificate of Latin American Studies from Michigan State University. She is a contributing author to several online publications. For more information about Wendy Meluch: www.visitorstudies.com
