Love this song, and the entire album.... I read Richard's book, too, right when it first came out. That was a very difficult period of time, so many incredibly talented, creative souls were lost to us, at far too young an age, as well as some of our best leaders, MLK, JFK, RFK, Malcolm....

Mimi was so beautiful...

I first heard this song in 1967 while i was in Vietnam in the army. It transformed me. I'd never heard a dulcimer before. It was like a breath of fresh air; such a silvery, silken sound. When I got home I bought the album and made a dulcimer, both of which I still have.

45 years or so later, I look back and wonder if that time really existed. As the song, "Ramblin' Boy" put it: "If when we die we go somewhere, I bet you a dollar he's ramblin' there." Here's to all the ramblers who've moved on. "Preserve your memories. They're all that's left you." Thanks for the post. It's a poignant one.

I remember reading "Been Down So Long Looks Up To Me" and loving it. I had no idea until today that Richard Farina was a folksinger as well.

Mimi's death was also horribly premature.

@McDing5156 - Pauline Marden is in fact Joan's half-sister. I have seen the Rainbow Quest vid,and it IS likely that Pauline did most of the writing, with Dick supplying the musical ideas on the dulcimer. =bloozblasterX=

Peter, Paul & Mary provide this copyright info for the song: Farina/Marden- Ryerson Music Pub., Inc. BMI.
Wikipedia says it was co-written by Richard and Pauline Baez.
David Hajdu's "Positively 4th Street" says that on "Celebrations for a Grey Day" the song was credited to Pauline, although elsewhere this book says that it was "inspired" by a phrase belonging to Pauline and Mimi.
