The Video Relay Service (VRS) is the main important part of Deaf Culture. What is VRS? It allows deaf caller to make a call using a computer with webcam. A Video Interpreter translates between hearing user and deaf user.

Since VRS is extremely popular in our Deaf Community, most of us are concerned with FCC rulings. Is VRS a Deaf friendly service for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing individuals or is the fund by NECA misused by several VRS providers?

This vlog explains how to make the VRS more attractive to Silicon Valley Companies so that we can use their "State of the Art" videophones.

  • What you have described is exactly what CSD did in several years ago. Sorenson nabbed the market by making a deal with DLink, and customized the firmware to make it more exclusive. Gave away videophones as freebies. CSD lost a lot of funds, then closed some offices. Do u want it back the way CSD did before? How can we do better right now?

  • @abcohende We, Deaf & Hard of Hearing people, are encouraged to be stockholders of the future R&D Center which could attract to some of Fortune 500 companies. (as always hearing investors are welcome..)

The VRS as non profit organization is a distributor in each state.

We would be able to choose one or more of several "State-of-the-art" devices.

The Deaf Community in America will be restored if Tech Companies hire D/HH people to work on next Deaf-Friendly device... and go on...

  • @abcohende How can we do better right now? Once we are setting the bar high for our Deaf Community, we would be able to share our visions with you

  • We also need standardization of VRS protocols to encourage competitiveness and inter working of VRS and communication system. In order to stay on the leading edge of this digital era we need to ensure that all future ideas, solution of the communication industry incorporate the interworking of video relay system.

  • @mawkayak I strongly believe in COMPETITIVE and I believe a competitive atmosphere is HEALTHY. No question about it.

That's why I said in a video with #5 R&D center where a lot of D/HH engineers and developers work on top secret projects along with Silicon Valley companies, thus we will have many FCC compliant devices available.

What's nice about the R&D center is that D/HH stockholders believe in future VP devices which could be available to every D/HH individual in the world.

  • Interesting Concept ... will review again later in a couple of weeks and give you my thoughts since I will be out of town alot the next couple of weeks ... May be well worth serious consideration "after the jury is in" on this concept from other viewers ...

  • @hmenkis ... Great.. look forward to hearing your thoughts.

  • what is the website for The VRS?

  • Clarification: I do not agree with the current decision.

  • The message is that because you use use Sorenson, you will suffer because "others" cause the problems. The "others" only want money. Because of "them" (the

"others"), "we must be angry at the Wal-Mart that is Sorenson."

    The FCC has come out with a "reform" and it says a whole bunch of BS then, finally, it says the "TRS Fund" . . . [changes subject}

    Bi-bi.
