In this second clip, Millie shows off her apartment to her new roommate, Pinky. Again, Altman uses mirror images--both literal and editorial--in a way that is so unforced we can easily overlook them. The underwater motif also reappears here, which to me is a symbol of the subconscious mind.
By the way, the low contrast evident in this clip is an aspect of my amateur editing and transfer process. The DVD itself has an excellent image and I encourage anyone to get a copy of it. It includes a commentary track by director Robert Altman and is published by Criterion.
The music makes it all seem a bit menacing.

I've known what to think about the score for this film. As music, it does nothing for me, and it seems to just get in the way here, by calling attention to itself--in my opinion. On the positive side, at least it's not what you'd call cliche.
