I am an American and I have never in my life cared about political candidates' religious views. In fact, just once I'd love to hear a candidate, when asked about his religion, simply respond by saying, "I don't discuss my religious views. Next question?"

@smikesmike05 Pretty said that matters more than intelligence.

true that, even Obama had to "admit" that he's a christian.

Bill Maher is a royal asshole. He would be fucking 12 year olds if it was legal.

Bill is a hypocritical fool. The neocons ran GB, the neocons run BO.
Bill is a nobody and he should STFU.

@bobbybushae339 People in America seem to take for granted the great tradition of secularism we have. It's obvious we have quite an abundance of bible-thumping idiots in this country, but our founding fathers thankfully could not be grouped in that category.
For example, the king/queen of England is also the head of the church. In Germany everyone has to pay a church tax whether they go to church or not.
Also, I don't see banning religious icons as admirable. (I'm atheist.)

@bobbybushae339 Interestingly our PM, David Cameron, just made some comments about 'christian values' in the past few days, and it's had significant news coverage. So it does happen in Europe, but admittedly in America making such comments would barely be a blip on the political radar. Over here it made the front page.

he looks like snoopy
@amatuerarabist
of course this does not apply to all countries in Europe, some are still openly religious
but for the most part, religion is kept far more private in Europe, apart from big events
and for the most part religion is kept seperate from government; often just because that is the norm, but sometimes because it is the actual law
for example, France has laws guaranteeing state secularism and it is even considered part of the national identity
they have even banned public icons

@amatuerarabist
fail
it's not about state sanctioned religion, you might as well call the UK a totalitarian state because they still have a monarchy, that's how irrelevant it is these days
what he is talking about is that in America all government candidates are expected to parade how they are good little christians, and if any said they were muslim or atheist or divorced they would quickly be shouted down and cast aside
in europe a candidate going on about their religion would be abnormal
