Thunderstorms kick ass in the kootenays

BC is so great, i would like to buy a cabin in the kootenays somewhere and retire. I hear Harper is not very popular in BC as well, which makes perfect sense. Retiring on a lake in south eastern BC somewhere, setting up a nice little grow and living out my days in a nice log cabin sound very tenmpting. Can you buy land off the trans canada for an affordable price say arouind the nelson area? What woud an acre go for? In New Brunswick you can get some nice deals, 100 acres of tree's for 30-40K.
