25 pound PR!

(Back flat no arch, with 12 inch grip)

I came in hoping to hit either 295 or 300, I had previously hit 280 x 3 reps a few weeks ago, never did I imagine I would hit 305-315 on these I was really happy today! Will be using 90% of 315 (285 pounds) for the 5-3-1 program.

295 x 1
300 x 1
305 x 1
310 x 1
315 x 1
320 x 0 (failed) Came close to trying my best max (320 pounds) with an arch.

Old best was 290 pounds.

  • your max flat really is only 325? i find that hard to belive id imagine you could do at least 340 350 no arch considering what i seen you do in some of your videos

  • its varies for everyone a close grip is usually can be anywhere from 5-30 pounds harder. If you close grip 325, shooting for 335+ might a reasonable to shot for.

  • well I haven't been feeling 100% on the bench press movements, my left shoulder has been holding me back some, maybe if it wasn't bothering me I could press more, I never really tried maxing flat at the start of a workout, the 325 I did was after a max arching attempt so I wasn't 100% for it. Maybe when I am feeling better I will but this just as of now.

  • so your close and reg max are pretty close only 10 lbs apart the reasonn i asked was cause i close gripped 325 the other day soo i figured id ask you what yoru max was to maybe get an idea of what i should go for but im almost postive i wouldnt get 360

  • yeah I came along way on this exercise, my max was before this was like 290, so I made some great gains on this one, I am hoping for a 350+ close grip in the future and 405 raw bench press.
