This is a simple AM radio receiver that use an integrated circuit chip called the MK484 as the main component. This simple radio will run on one AA battery using an earphone. I show it here connected to my homemade amplifier that requires 3 volts. This is a stand alone device that doesn't require an external antenna or an earth ground to function. Circuit diagrams using the MK484 can be found by doing a Google search for MK484.

  • maybe you should try some cats whiskers diodes or rusty razor blade diodes-probably be able to use some of crystal battery concoctions for diodes too...

  • @m3sca1 ------Sounds like something else fun to try.

  • When I was 13, I worked all summer bailing hay to earn $22 that I used to buy my first transistor radio. It had 6 transistors.

  • @joewilder ------My dad tells me that in the old days the whole family would gather around the radio in the evening and listen to shows. It was way before TV and things were very different. Even in my day I sometimes listened to "Radio Mystery Theater" at 9pm on KNX 1070.

  • That MK484 does look to be great, glad to hear it in use and demo'd. There's the MK414 and a TDA with similar functions...am busily checking all my busted up radios !

Hmmm, what happens if you throw a 484 on a SEC 18X instead of the tranny ? Might get this from a connected speaker "Bienvenido a tu energía libre coherencias circuito resonante, afinación será realizada por el MK484, tenga un buen día" lol

  • @slider2732 ---- Make one of these and put it in your Delorean! Maybe an exciter will power it. "Great Scott"!!!

  • This IC is virtually the same as the ZN414 that turned up in hobby project articles from the 70s and 80s. One circuit I saw years ago powered the radio chip using solar cells.

  • This radio design indicated a move to Consumption.

  • you rock dude.

  • Great work! I might make my own now!
