Anybody remember G I Jill? She was a disc jockey for the Armed Forces Radio Service in the 1940s-1950s and was without a doubt the most popular of all DJs. Her programs G I Jive and Jill's Juke Box were recorded in Los Angeles and sent to anywhere there were American servicemen to listen. The programs were transferred to 16" 33 rpm radio transcription discs/records and played at every U S military base around the world. She was sweet, sexy, and the "girl next door" type. Little wonder she was popular. Her famous sign-off remark was eagerly anticipated by everyone.
This is the G I Jive show from about 1949-1950, program 2255. These programs were 15 minutes long, but to accomodate YouTube's limit of 10 minutes or less per video, I sort of edited this to fit. Anyway, it should bring back some fond memories to anyone who ever heard her on the radio.
The first tune is "I Can't Get Started" by Artie Shaw and the "62 Ladies in Sea Green Pajamas" was performed by the Starlighters. Enjoy!
this old stuff is like a beautiful dream, so endless and relaxing

The best era of radio entertainment has definitely long since passed. Love this old stuff.

Modern FM radio needs more women DJs like "GI Jill" nowadays! Most of the women jocks on FM sound like "robotic eunuchs" for cryin' out loud! "Delilah" in syndication is great, but we need more women who sound like women.
ClearChannel, Regent, etc., are you taking note?

You've got a great sounding Table (Garrard 4H?). Seriously, you need to get this through a proper NAB gain stage and patch it directly in. It sounds good as is, but I can only imagine how good this would sound patched direct. I've got some AFRS music programs I haven't digitized yet...I may have to post a few! Musically great, thanks for sharing!

Your right about Jill sounding sweet & sexy (with her voice) because she really does. Even though I'm too young to have heard the AFRS broadcasts of the show during WWII I can see why the GI's liked her so much. She was truly great!! I only wish there were more phot'o's released of Jill besides the one of her face nest to an AFRS microphone but thats the only one I've ever seen. By the way Jills real name was Martha Wilkerson in case you didn't know.....
