Total Anarchy is the name of a freeware game I'm making which is similar to the popular Grand Theft Auto series. It is being made using Game Maker 7 and features detailed top down 3D graphics, hours of music, dozens of weapons and scores of unique vehicles. I plan to release a public beta of the game in early 2010. This game has been in production since late 2006.
Key Points:
Total Anarchy is set in the year 2029, in a futuristic and fictional city called New Verago in Great Britain.
You play as Leon Russel who is an international smuggler with friends and foes in every area of the criminal underworld.
There are over 70 cars, 12 weapons, 8 areas and several building interiors. Much of the world is destructible and intractable.
There are seven radio stations featuring hours of music and talk. The stations play a mix of both contemporary and retro music including Dub, Rock, Hip Hop, Electro House, Drum and Bass, Chillout, Electro Pop, Funk, New Wave, Trance and Disco.
The game is nearly finished and should be released in the next couple of months. Please do not ask me where you can download it until then.
Please note an Alpha version has been leaked, this version is nearly a year old and does not represent the quality of the final product.

How do people make these games

The interface looks like GTA/GTA2, but it seems one detail is missing: in GTA, when you accelerate, the screen is no longer centered in your car, but slightly ahead of it, which helps a lot when guiding the car at high speeds. It may seem like a minor interface issue, but this was missing from the top-view in GTA 3 and rendered this view mostly useless.
