This is so good and such a classic that I have to go incoherent to describe it. Burton, of course, provided magnificent and mood-precise narration, and the music provided by Wayne, while deeply rooted in the 1970'es, transcended its time and still sounds as magnificent today as I would expect it to sound to Wells Himself in the late 1800's. All the while, it puts its finger on the NERVE, that is, the basic philosohpies of Western society today. Awesome!

Phil Lynott is so good in this song! Some of his greatest vocals IMO.

@Truth118 I hated that adaptation for Tom Cruise. In some countries it would be consider
defamatory to do this to a great piece of literature. Cant they just tell the bloody story as close to the book as reasonably possible!
-
@Truth118 Me, too. The book was set in England and had much more impact.
The only good thing about the Spielberg one was the special effects. But Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning were a couple of whiny brats.

@wandererlain I'm religious. Think i'm a dick?

@wandererlain H.G. Wells had the Martians invade England because back then it was the greatest world power and he wasn't an arrogant man. In the Hollywood adaptation, all nations of Earth were assailed simultaneously but communication was cut off so there's little mention beyond rumors of what's happening elsewhere in the world. I myself would have preferred a well done adaptation closer to the book, but more people are able to relate to screaming little girls and Tom Cruise unfortunately.

@Whirrednerd And the silly American adaptations don't take in account that they invaded London, and blitzed the fuck out of it like the Nazis did.
To think that the world revolves around America. How arrogant.

Aren't religious people such dicks? The aliens don't even take it into consideration. They are just higher on the food chain, like the Nazis were.

@madash8 it was a martian

One of the only few seconds of vocals that has actually brought a tear to my eye. Such is the perfection of this precious moment.

What I love about this story, the book and obviously this musical version, is that it does cover all aspects of an apocolyptic occurance. Modern apocolyptic films always forget little things like this, and assume all humans would all just run or fight and thats it. Heaven knows I'd turn to my faith in an hour like this. Things like that are what make War Of The Worlds the best sci-fi book ever written.
