Bishop Museum:
Bishop Museum was founded in 1889 by Charles Reed Bishop in honor of his late wife, Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop, the last descendent of the royal Kamehameha family. The Museum houses an extensive collection of Hawaiian artifacts and has 24 million cataloged objects. As a result of over a century of field work in Hawaii and the Pacific, the museum also cares for Natural History collections of over 22 million specimens of plant and animal life, including those that are extinct. These collections range from throughout the Pacific, but are the largest in the world for Hawaiin plants and animals as well as those from New Guinea, the Phillippines and Southeast Asia.
