Peter Gimbel and a team of photographers set out on an expedition to find and film, for the very first time, Carcharodon carcharias....The Great White Shark.
Taking over nine months, the film crew traveled from Durban, South Africa, where they followed a whaling fleet, across the Indian Ocean where they found a sunken aircraft carrier in Sri Lanka, and finally to South Australia where the Great White Shark awaits....
The film contains rare footage of an active whaling fleet and the first-ever 35mm footage of a Great White Shark. This thrilling documentary is an all-time classic, and inspired both the films Jaws and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
Oh lordy, they appear to be swimming with Oceanic Whitetips in the dark.
Ludicrously dangerous.

BWWD was filmed on half-frame 35mm (Techniscope) and blown up to full frame. The original expedition was a search for the shark Megladon (extinct) white pointer thought to still exist off South Africa in 1969 as reported by the whaling fleet.
