Does it require expensive, high quality brass ammo to work? I want one but I want to be able to shoot cheap stuff out of it: Wolf, Bear and Tula comes to mind.

Yes, it will work on the CnC lower. We have tested and used both front and rear positions with the GG mags and both work 100%.
