I saw her live but unfortunately she didn't do this song. However, it's still my favorite of hers. Along with Tanya Tucker she's my favorite female country singer. Sometimes everything comes together just perfectly and this is one of those songs. Will always love this.

I know this may sound crazy, but I've always thought this song could have been interpreted as a song about Christ. If Jesus had "wanted to stay" on earth and accept Satan's offer, none of us would have had the opportunity for eternal life in Heaven with the Lord. The pain of the Cross was deep, but it hurt us bad in a real good way. Maybe silly, but I always thought of this song as a metaphor.
