I agree. Musically, I hear it as a more fully-formed version of the Beatles' "Nowhere Man". Lyrically, it's the oldest story ever (love lost) told from a stunningly unique perspective. And the original studio performance is heaven on earth.
For sure, decades later both bands are still influencing musicians all over the world. I think the Lennon/McCartney songbook contains a lot more pop classics, but they had seven years (approx.) of writing "together". Chilton/Bell had probably less than two years - one album and part of a second. Every tune is solid, not a throway in the bunch. So from the standpoint of consistency, I do think Chilton/Bell have the edge.
you should! both the chilton "1970" cd and -especially- chris bell`s "I am the cosmos" are treasures to be sought out by all BS fans...both well recorded, too and far from just outtakes.
They are. September gurls do so much I was your butch and you were touched I loved you well never mind I've been crying all the time December boys got it bad.
What a major dick! It's great they used Big Star on a hit show. That's a great way for people to learn about them and give them a listen and help spread the word. Any more monetary assistance the surviving members can get is a plus, right?

And my video filming skills have improved a lot since this one, this was one of the first videos at live gigs I filmed!

no, silly! this is POP:
what sounds better, "september gurls",
or "december boys"?
seriously.
if your choice is the latter, then maybe you should switch your listening preferences to glam? ;-)
