You are absolutely correct: "...it's never easy, and sometimes downright IMPOSSIBLE, to convince a person with dementia to YOUR reality." I always knew I was fighting a losing battle, but the tendency is to continue to work against the grain than with it. A greatly beneficial psychological switch! Thank you!

Thank you for addressing such an important issue in a truly understanding way. No one knows what Dementia is all about until they've had to deal with it 24/7. If more caregivers or family members understood this simple concept, entering "their" reality as often as possible, the patients would be much easier to deal with....well, MOST of them!

My mother's parents both passed away after suffering from alzheimer's, but my dad's parents are still struggling with theirs. All of my grandparents were very devout christians their whole lives, but once they got alzheimer's, they cursed frequently and became very violent. They've threatened to shoot me, stab me. Hell, my grandmother threatened to cook and eat me. Sometimes I forget how great they used to be. If I start to loose my mind, shoot me in the head repeatedly plzzzz lol.

@guitar10726 No--I wouldn't shoot you--I'd just find a way to communicate with you that didn't involve violence:) I know that despite all our best efforts, sometimes nothing seems to work--one of the best things you can do though is keep your own sense of humor about it all. Some day, hopefully, you can look back and laugh at some of the craziness going on now. Cindy
