@musicfreakcc Leaving Arts Center heading to Five Points, its 45 but once you clear Arts Center headin to Lindbergh, it jumps to 50 then to 60. Once you leave the tunnels, it goes up to 70 until you reach the second set of switches for the yard.

@musicfreakcc Yes, agreed!!!!! :D But sadly BRT is being used as the solution for now. It's the popular "political" alternative, seen as the cheapest to tackle this problem, and contrary to the expenses in constructing more subway or light rail, commuter rail can be introduced using older railroads already in place and building stations around them. Me being an urban rail fan though, I prefer subways.

@Reders160 That's mostly because Marta is much newer (started in 1978) and the stations are much farther apart from each other.

so does JFK to N. Quincy on the boston subway. lol

It's called a switch. :P

not really
this is one of my favorite sections of the red line....the portion between Lindbergh Station and Arts Center. After passing the switches for the yard heading towards downtown, trains reach 70mph and break into the downtown tunnels at 60mph!

@6V92TA The speed limit in the tunnels is 45mph as I recall.

AS FAR AS THE SOUTHEAST IS CONCERNED, MARTA TRANSPORTATION IS THE BEST. BUT AS A 10 YEAR RESIDENT OF ATLANTA, I WISH THEY WOULD CONTINUE EXPANDING THEIR SUBWAY AND/OR INTRODUCE COMMUTER RAIL SERVICE TO ACCOMMODATE SUBURBAN AREAS. THE CITIES POPULATION IS AROUND 500,000, BUT THE METROPOLITAN AREA IS AROUND 5,000,000. MY CONCERN IS STREETS ARE VERY OVERCROWDED WITH CARS AND BUSES.

@Baron2yahoo That's the real problem - the lack of a commuter rail system.
