Wowza! Stan and the group were on fire! Terri Lyne and the pianist were terrific and the bassist was booming from the bottom. Stan was always a generous leader, letting the players get some too. Missing Stan Getz!! (BTW, Terri Lyne Carrington was a prodigy who received a full Berklee scholarship at age 11!)
@pyrox23 You're right about that. The drummer with Carsons band with Doc was Ed Shaunessy and sometimes Louie Bellson would sub. If either one of them were present when Terry Lyne Carrington played this show with Stan Getz they were embarrassed because niether one of them could ever swing with that much feeling and incredible tasty chops. They had to be sitting there with there heads hung in shame while this young woman ate these asses up alive, You're the best Terri Lyne. BRAVO
Carson said it all at the very end. Amazing stuff - great great drumming - especially the 'fours'. I believe I saw Getz try to draw everybody's attention to the drumming at the end of one of his fours. And if that was Lou Levy on piano he was the piano player on that great classic Getz album of '55 'West Coast Jazz' w Candoli, Vinnegar & Manne. Thanks for this great video.
Johnny Carson had a full big band in the studio right up until the end of his run, and it featured some very well known players. They still got out-swung on this night!

It looks like Pete Jolly on piano and Bob Magnusson on bass. Nice playing, Terri Lyne, thanks !

Wow, a late night showing playing jazz? Who would have thought?! I thought it was all pop, fake music crap.
Oh to have grown up in this era for music! Stan Getz = THE MAN.
