[ch2] The Locket

Ok, tonight was a free night, but I am telling you now: I PROBABLY WON;T POST FOR A WHILE! I just cant, stupid regents.

chapter 2

And I hung up, at least he didn;t have the guilt of a death on his back, unlike me. I blame myself for putting Mike in the hospital. He begged to differ, but I know it;s my fault.

**FLASHBACK**
--We were by a lake with our summer camp. It was the last summer both of us were able to be there, we would be too old the next year. It was late at night, and pretty cold.--

Mike: Are you sure you want to do this?
Meg: Sure! The big rocks don; look too slippery. I;m sure we could walk on them just fine.
Mike: Ok, but give me your hand. [grabs my hand]
--I remember his hands were clammy, unsure if we should be there. It was after curfew. We weren;t supposed to be out.--

Meg: [fingers intertwined with Mike;s] See, It;s easy! [skips from boulder to boulder]
Mike: you;re going kinda fast, Meg.
Meg: [stops with Mike on a really large boulder] Sorry. But, this is our last summer here! I want to make sure it;s amazing. [smiles]

--Then he leaned in and kissed me. It was soft, gentle, but it sent sparks throughout me. He held my chin in his hand, holding it like a fragile piece of porcelain. I could feel us both smile through the kiss, when we pulled away we looked into each other;s eyes.--
Mike: Should we get going?
Meg: Yeah.
--We started walking back, but I slipped on a wet spot of the rock, I pulled Mike down with me. He hit his head on a sharp rock and was unconscious. After an hour of screaming and yelling [I didnt want to leave him alone] people came. He had a concussion and a very high fever [from being out in the cold and damp air for so long]. Both of those factors led him to being put in the hospital.--
**END FLASHBACK**

So, I know it;s my fault. If we just stayed at our cabins like he wanted to, everything would be fine. But me being stubborn, killed him. I can never forgive myself for that. Never. How could I? I thought about the last words he said to me. Mike wanted me to find someone else. He wanted me to be in love and be happy. But who in the world would give me that? I talk to a few other boys besides Nick, but they;re total jocks. Some are just plain dumb or jerks. How could they love me when all they want is a girl to show off?

I laid in my bed for the rest of the day, just thinking. The tears eventually stopped, and all that was left of me were my thoughts. Of friends, family, school, and mostly Mike. Then I realized that the only person I;ve had a real conversation with since yesterday was Nick. I only said Hi or thank you and stuff like that to my parents. Nick is an amazing friend; he can always get me to smile and laugh. I needed that kid to keep me living.

The night came quickly outside my bedroom window, and the stars emerged through the black sky. I heard some cars go by on the rainy street below. And the cool air slipped through the window screen, making goose-bumps appear on my arm. Tomorrow was Sunday, that meant I had to find something black to wear for the funeral. On Tuesday, I;m gonna try to find a boyfriend. That;ll make me feel better, love will help.

Tears started coming again, they made their way out of my eyes and onto my pillow. In my hand I held the locket, tracing the heart shape with my thumb. I must;ve traced that heart at least 1,000 times before I fell asleep.

So how is it so far? It doesn;t really get interesting until about chapter 6, sorry

if it doesn't get interesting until chapter six, then you should post more often! lol. but how can she be with someone else when she feels this way about mike? sunday is the funeral and she wants a bf on tuesday? this chick recovers fast.
