  • I got a big kick last season seeing the retro helmets and jerseys from the AFL's begining. The powder blue and lightning bolts of the chargers were my fave.

  • @alonenjersey That was a great series. I wish the Chargers and Oilers (oops, they are gone) and Patriots would go back to the old uniforms.

    Glad you liked the clip.

  • @alonenjersey

    me too

  • Well, after the 1972-73 season, the NBA TV contract went to CBS where it stayed until the 1989-1990 season. So by saying "tried to destroy the NBA" what exactly do you mean?

The league was doing a fine job of imploding during the 1970's.

  • Long live the AFL!

  • Love the AFL! The colorful unis. Wide open offense. More AFL video is needed to prove that it was the genisis of modern pro football.

  • @jln55 Uh I know that.

  • @MIKECNW He did not say they blacked out home games, sir. He said the NFL was not showing ANY games on TV in a city that hosted a home game.

  • @plntntvzn When you say the greatness of the NFL had disappeared...what do you mean? Do you mean a spreading out of the talent? Few truly talented-across-the-board teams? Help me understand your perspective.

  • @marquettefootball But not darn good in reality. Two months ago,I made the post about who they actually played, not "who did they play?". I know who they played. it was a time when being a top-10 ranked offense did NOT mean you were evn a good offense in reality. In 1972, the greatness of the NFL had disappeared, and that Miami team was in the right place at the right time.

  • @plntntvzn Is this another case of "who did they play?" Because in the 5 meetings they had with Top 10-ranked scoring offenses that year, they gave up 15 points per game. Not the '85 Bears, but not exactly pathetic. Plus, they were smart to hide their pass-blocking weaknesses by running like no team ever had in NFL history, and it's not like Griese/Morrall were like Trent Dilfer all year. Do what you do well, and do it to a historic level? Darn good in my book.

  • He's says the NFL made a major mistake by blacking out home games, but if that's tryue than why did they continue to do that till way into the 70's?

  • @plntntvzn: The Patriots also had a good cameraman. Matt Walsh earned his money.
