WWSCC Event #2 2009 Oversteer • CS Miata • John run 4

This is footage from the second event of the 2009 Western Washington Sports Car Council Autocross Series. This event was organized and run by the car club Torque Steerers (www.torquesteerers.org) and took place at Sanderson Field in Shelton Washington on June 1, 2009.

The car is my 1999 Mazda Miata 10AE. It's been modified to the limit of the SCCA C-stock competition rules with Fat Cat Motorsports re-valved shocks and bump stops, a Flyin' Miata sway bar and exhaust, and lightweight SSR wheels shod in 225/45-15 Hoosier A6 tires.

Running the course in this direction made things a bit crazy. Prevously where there were turns and technical elements, this day there was only speed with an extra helping of go-fast piled on top. The trick to going fast seemed to be, well there was no trick really, just floor it and miss the cones. It felt a little bit like the 5 d's of dodgeball: dip, dodge, duck, dive, and ...dodge. Except the cones weren't being thrown at you, as much as it felt like it.

Driving it fast required a different type of balls as well, but we wont go into that. My technique? Gritted teeth, a clenched butt, and lightning fast up and down shifts. I think I was trying to surprise third gear at the end there. HYAH!!!

This was my best run, a clean 46.690. I finished in 7th place in class for the day, but managed a 4th overall for the weekend!
