Staten Island is a traditional tune, usually played in D. Some years ago, wind players Dick Lee and Hamish made a record, on the UK Harbourtown record label, called "The Bees Knees" on which they played a light jazzy version of Staten Island on two high whistles in D. I've followed the spirit of Dick and Hamish in my improvisations around the tune on tenor guitar - in the key of G - which I've called "Staten Island Steps" because I'm stepping around the A and B themes fairly loosely.

The tenor guitar was made for me by fellow musician and luthier from Ditchling in Sussex (UK), Ian Chisholm. You can see examples of Ian's beautiful guitars, mandolins and other instruments at:
