This song reminds me of my childhood, listening to my uncle playing all of the great EJ tunes.
These early 70s tunes were classics, words and music match beautifully. Bernie Taupin deserves more credit for writing some of the best lyrics of all time. Thanks for posting.
Peace

TO: my screechy...I feel the same way! My Great Grandmother was full-blooded Cherokee...but I have the white blood in my veins...it feels like a curse! I've been listening to this song since I was a young girl...I'm 52 now...I love this old song...thankyou for your honesty...PEACE V from your Sister!

I sometimes truly feel ashamed to be a white when I see what was and is done to the true NATIVE AMERICANS. It also hurts me to see what was done to the African Americans. I just wish none of it had ever happened but unfortunately it did and is still happening just not to the same degree. This song is beautiful and so is the video. Thank you!

@jemjoy2007 Nitsiitapii is what language others might recognize? Blackfeet, I believe? We're Akimel Oodham (Authum) means 'River People' or known as Pima, closely related to Thono Oodham, means 'Desert People' or known as Papago in Arizona, USA. We can educate others about Native Americans this way, like why Blackfeet and not Blackfoot, or is it? The average mainstream American knows less about NAs than Europeans like British white boys Elton & Bernie when they wrote this song in the 1970s.

@willsmackyoudown united states was not the cause of ww1 or ww2, i know that. But what shocks me is you going into pointless wars like the iraqi war, vietnam war etc. So shut the fuck up and sort out your own country before fucking about with others
