@ xGolbezx & SlamminWolfgang: Thanks homiez, I'll have to try those strategies. Sounds like it is what has worked but only inadvertently so I didn't pick up on it.
The holy water especially seems to have some traction if you know hwo to use it. Like in CV1, beat the first form of drac, then break the left candle and take holy water--it may not do any damage but that stun timing makes all the difference between a comfy victory and a loss.

usually ducking and constantly hitting works for me. for some reason it just stands there attacking over your head. or maybe i'm just lucky

Beating the doppleganger at the end of the stage is a kind of shot-in-the-dark chance: Either it hella kicks your ass or you catch it in one of those areas just so its reaction and attack is poor and you wind up pwning it. (Shrugs) Can't really think of another strategy...
