If anyone doubts that the Harlem Globetrotters were incomparable athletes as well as world-class entertainers, this documentary will put them wise. The documentary features interviews with everyone from former Globetrotters and NBA coaches to Henry Kissinger. "The Team That Changed The World" lays out not only the development of the team itself - how original Globetrotters Marques Haynes and Reece "Goose" Tatum turned a sport into a form of vaudeville without sacrificing amazing displays of skill - but also the volatile racial politics of the 1930s, '40s, and '50s, when the Globetrotters were at their peak. In only an hour, the documentary argues persuasively that this basketball team, as they toured the world, became a symbol of racial progress and American good will. It's not the same as seeing the Globetrotters live, but fans of these great performers will find this documentary a pleasure.

  • @MCEntreri Agreed. By the way, have you seen the "Standing on the Shoulders of Giants" documentary about the Rens, directed by Kareem Abdul Jabbar? They have a small clip of them playing. The Rens were a pass heavy team. John Wooden said they were the best team he had ever seen.

  • @Sovnarkom they should have been mentioned though.

  • @MCEntreri I don't think there's any video footage of the Rens beating the Original Celtics or even beating the Oshkosh All Stars in the World Basketball Championship.

  • The Trotters were incredible athletes and so was jese owens...too bad when he went back in the usa AFTER winning the golds in the olympic games he would end up racing against horses in order to make some money cause the goverment wouldn't support him...such a shame... :(

  • The Trotters made an incredible contribution to the world not just for what they did in sports. The only thing I would have liked is if the story started with the Rens beating the Original Celtics. This is not the first all black team to beat a championship caliber all white team.

  • I saw them in the early 60's as a kid and it was a great great time. They had skills that made basketball look like magic. Curly Neal, Meadow Lark Lemon,(love the name).

Now that I'm older and know everything they went through makes it even more remarkable. I saw them in Oakland Ca so they probably were more comfortable but in the 60's racism was bad there too. But surely not as bad as they experienced in other US cities. regardless they are an American treasure

  • Thank you for posting this series...I've learned a lot about the impact of the Globetrotters.
