This is an incredibly easy yirdaki to play because it is not very voluminous. That is, you don't have to move much air to make this instrument vibrate as the bore is narrow for most of its length with a gradually increase in diameter from about half-way down.
The result is that this yirdaki is ultra responsive to changes in air pressure and is ideally suited to students of NE Arnhem Land trad technique. You don't need to huff and puff on this one... one breath can sustain you for a long time unlike instrument that are large-bored throughout.
Mirrwatnga made this yirdaki. He is a brother to Djakapurra and lives out at Dhalinybuy outstation where many of his brothers make fine instruments. This is one of them, a yirdaki I selected out to promote because of its compact, gritty, direct acoustics... a no-fuss player with good volume, power, back pressure and resonance.
You can play this yirdaki faster than most Es, and with little effort as well.
Mirrwatnga's brother-in-law (or galay in Yolngu Matha language) Larry Winiwini gives this yirdaki a test drive.
This yirdaki is priced attractively, check it out quickly in the iDIDJ Store before it disappears:
