Arthusa (Shot with Sony PMW-EX3)

Switching from film to HD for the first time. This was shot on a Sony PMW-EX3 and served a few purposes. Test the camera, figure out post-production workflow and scout location for potential project. I also wanted to see how it would look in HD on Youtube and Vimeo which is why Im posting it.

No lens adaptors or filters were used.

Canon 7D & 5D are better, cheaper & so smaller than this monster!

@PowerfulEarthling The EX3 is pretty light and easy to use when compared to the 16mm film camera 'monsters' I started out with. If there's anything wrong with the image quality here, it was due to me the operator or compression issues. The EX3 puts out as good a picture as the 7D/5D if used properly, though the 7D/5D are indeed cheaper. If I were to buy a camera now, I'd seriously be considering the Panasonic AF-AG100 which is quickly going to make the 7D/5D (as video cameras) obsolete.

meh, not so good... Better get some smaller HD cam and buy letus35 mini adapter to it - then you'll see the right thing.

Watching footage from this camera on Youtube or Vimeo does not do it justice. Some of the picture profiles I used here I like, some I don't. With proper tweaking, this camera is pretty amazing, but if you really want to see the right thing, shoot film.

No post color correction. Straight from the camera, but different picture profiles.

ABSOLUTELY NOT. Canon 7d and 5d are cheaper, but not better, just DIFFERENT.

In terms of quality this is much way better. I'm gonna buy this camera, is one of the best you can get from less then 10.000dollars. Of course canon is better then the other cameras at the same price, but still a photography camera, that have a particular look on video, nothing to do with this, that look a lot more to cinema look, It's amazing the pmw ex-3.
