what rock did you use?

I'm not sure what type of rock he was using. It sounds and looks like a high quality piece of chert, but from where I'm not sure. The dark color could be diagnostic if compared to samples from different quarries. I bet it is from Texas.

You can use some types of bone. It has to be very dense and strong. There are lots of places online where you can buy both flint and commercial pressure flaking tools. I would Google "flint knapping tools". Some people say that you have to make 1 ton of gravel before your first presentable point. Guess that depends on your definition of presentable.

You should start with cheap stone, and move to more expensive and attractive stuff after you get good.
