Spokesperson for Bandelier National Monument, New Mexico Chris Judson talks about the several inches of silt and mud coveing the area around the visitor's center of Bandelier National Monument. Sunday's August 21, 2011 flash floods were estimated at over 3,000 cubic feet per second and the peak flow, which lasted only 10 minutes, brought down tons of debris causing extensive damage to the banks of the Frijoles Creek. The undamaged visitors center is protected by visqueen plastic, several thousand sand bags and Jersey barriers.
