Laurencia :Two Act ballet with four Scenes on the play by Lope de Vega - Fuente Ovejuna and music of Alexander Krein, choreographed by Vakhtang Chabukiani. Laurencia was premiered on March 22 of 1939, at the Kirov/Mariinsky Theatre with Natalia Dudinskaya (Laurencia) and Vakhtang Chabukiani (Frondoso). A ballet which attempted to combine the principles horeodramy and virtuosic classical dance.
Two of outstanding ballet dancer with unmatched temperament, Maya Plisetskaya(in her absolute prime) -Laurencia and Vakhtang Chabukiani -Frondoso.
Many was written and is writing till now about Primadonna Assoluta Plisetskaya and everyone adores her even they are not a balletomans.
Vakhtang was a dancer and choreographer, whose performances, especially with partnership of wonderful Natalia Dudinskaya in 1930s in Kirov/Mariinsky Theatre and in Tbilisi from 1941-1960s with beautiful Vera Tsignadze was the real firework of dance. When one the greatest Russian tenor Leonid Sobinov first saw him, he exclaimed : "This is a miracle of nature". In her book "Soviet Ballet" Iris Morley wrote : "Trying to describe this unusual and magnificent dancer, experienced the same difficulty, as when trying to describe a tornado. He takes possession of the whole scene, betrayed wonderful fury, sometimes dying down so that stunned the audience can see the body, as if was hewn by Rodin, you see the eagle which fell on the rocks of the Caucasus ... He is both a great classical dancer, the heir to all the traditions of Leningrad, and the embodiment of the rich folklore of his native Georgia ... "
"My principles remain unchanged - wrote V.Chabukiani - Georgian Classic Ballet must be established on the national basis, folklore elements must be organically confluent with the classic ones, but the proportions must be carefully distributed and strictly defined...". This are the words for what I especially respect him.
