As she had no part in writing the song, only performing it, she never got a fair share of the revenues that this song generated. This is rather painful, as a) the song itself was a more or less copy of an existing one (Banjo Song by the Big 3, see Mama Cass) and b) the singer contributed largely to the instant power of the song. She ended up doing financially not very well and died too young.
