The Boeing B-47 Stratojet jet bomber was a medium-range and medium-size bomber capable of flying at high subsonic speeds and primarily designed for penetrating the airspace of the Soviet Union. A major innovation in post-World War II combat jet design, it helped lead to the development of modern jet airliners. While the B-47 never saw major combat use, it remained a mainstay of the U.S. Air Force's Strategic Air Command (SAC) during the 1950s and early 1960s.

  • Part of this video looks like a CBS documentary in the 50s that my Dad was involved with. He was in the 310 bomb wing in Kansas. He has a still photo that looks an awful lot like the shot of the B-47 refueling from the KC-97 at :47. Also, at :02 the 47 taxis around a Korean War Vintage RB-26C (the black twin engine propeller driven bomber), which Dad also flew in Korea. In WWII they were called A-26, but redesignated as B-26 for Korea to satisfy NATO restrictions on aircraft type.

  • Nookular. It's pronounced noo-kyu-lar.

  • @richardcwood1 Yeah! The B-47 outside mcconell is my grandpas retired plane.

  • Those are awesome jets! I can;t but notice they look almost like the tomacat fighter jet.Cold war era aircraft were cool and it's too bad they didn't last long.

  • @1georg57 You'll have to tell me what those "Necular" weapons are all about. I thought I had seen, or worked with them all.

  • I WORKED RB47s OUT OF FORBES AFB 1956 TO 1960 TDY YOKOTO AFB TOOK PICTURE OF RB47H 34294 THAT WAS LATER SHOT DOWN OVER BERANT SEA JULY 1960 THE COPILOT AND NAVIGATOR GOT OUT PILOT AND 3 ECM OPERATORS KILLED I WORKED THE GUNNERY SYSTEM I MET THE CO PILOT IN ANNAPOLIS HE SAID HE KILLED TWO MIGS GAVE HIM PICTURE OF PLANE I TOOK OVER JAPAN FROM A KC97 REFUEL

  • thats one beautiful bomber :)

  • @1georg57 Awesome sir! Powered by J-47 turbojet engines.... Am I correct? I was assigned to NWC China Lake in the early 80s and fabricated over 500 fuel hoses for the engines on a B-47 brought out of the desert (it had been there for climate testing for 20 years). It made a one-time flight over the Sierra mountain range to Castle Air Force Base Museum. Most proud of that.

  • The B-47 was the ancestor of almost all modern jet transport (except the Concorde) It's original innovations remain in today's aviation.

  • The Cold War began Because of the Berlin Blockade. We advanced money and equipment to the Soviets during WW2. Stalin's and his successors' lust for power was the cause of the arms race.
