I think its the same reason as to why most actors or movies get under appreciated. While it is good to make the audience feel sad or sorry for the characters, a lot prefer to laugh or feel moved by a romantic scene. It's the same typical thing that happens at any decade. The comedies and dramas would still have that empathy, but they would be more prefered than the rest.

@Liebling05 Ron is Creighton's Grandson. I am proud to be a distant relative of Lon and Creighton (Lon Chaney Jr) Both amazing actors that have been overlooked for their achievements and talents here in the US. They are mostly remembered for their Horror movies although both men have played very diverse roles. One that just amazes me is that of Lon Chaney as a China man. Ron and his family have been trying to raise the Money for Lon Chaney Jr's star in Hollywood which is far overdue.

He was such a great makup artist. I have seen many of his films and had no idea what he actually looked like untill I saw this.

Very nice video - Orson Welles said in 1971 that there has never been a tribute to Chaney anything near the dimensions he deserves.
