Do you know that the Islamic Republic of Iran now ranks alongside China as the worlds biggest prison for journalists? Journalists have become a prime target in an Iranian government crackdown on the opposition following last Junes disputed presidential election and many of them had to leave the county. Many of them fled to Turkey, Iraq and Pakistan and some of them are living in France now.
They are not eligible for any help from UN or the Turkish government, while they are waiting in Turkey for asylum. This puts a tremendous financial pressure on them as they left Iran without any money and many of them are breadwinner for their own family. If it werent because of the assistance from RSF, most of these journalists would have not been able to survive thus far. For whom in France, they are not immediately granted asylum, so they have to be financially supported by RSF. However, RSFs funds for supporting these Iranian journalists have dried up, which means loss of such basic survival needs as shelter and food is imminent for these journalists.
It is our time to help now. For the last eight months, we have watched the endless efforts of these brave people to inform the world of the brutal circumstances in Iran and now we have to support them. Donate to RSF now.
