This song also brings back memories of my dad who died 21 years ago. He was born in Glasgow and immigrated to Canada after WW2. When this song came out in 1961 I was a little girl and I thought this song was written about my dad and his time in the war. he will always be my hero.
Miss you Dad XXX

Thanks for the welcome! Everytime I listen to this song, I think of my Father who passed away 20 years ago on January 15th. He was a true Scotsman, born in Edinburgh & immigrated to Canada in his 20's. His name was Patrick; However, he went by the name "Angus", a true Scottish name! So Dad, this one's for you! I love & miss you! Cheers!!! :) xoxo

For such a little thing! You're more than welcome, I'm so happy I could help you!!! :))))))
Remember, if you ever want to look for a song you don't know the title but you know the lyrics: just write those few lyrics on google (or yahoo, etc...) and add the word "lyrics", and also the name of the artist if you know it, and you have high probability to find exactly the title you're missing.
All the best to you, take care!!!

Thanks LadyGreyCarolyn - i listen to that song 100 years ago :-), still fascinated. Today i'm on search for a song (title) i heard in the early 60th from a british radio station. One line of the Lyrics was "...sleep in peace, my soldier laddie ...". The tune/melody was the same of the Song "letzte Rose"(german title) from the Opera 'MARTHA' of Flotow. The singers voice remindet me on Andy Stewart or David Withfield (?) CAN YOU HELP ? Thanks anyway ! JOERG/Philippines
Enjoyed this song by John. Never knew he recorded this.
Only heard Andy Stewart's version. Thanks for posting it.
Cheers; ... *(^_^)*

I'm not even Scottish, but this brought tears to my eyes.
John McDermott with his musicians did it beautifully.
